You don’t need to be vegetarian or vegan, but plants (and a variety of them), are essential on your journey. The more you can add them in, the easier it will be to meet your goals.
Why Plants?
- Nutrients
Plants have nutrients you can’t get elsewhere. While multivitamins do exist, the body responds differently to them when they come from food.
- Feeling full
Vegetables are typically low in calories for their weight. Generally you can eat more of them and reduce your overall calorie intake. This is why I generally say that if you are aiming to lose weight, aim for half your plate to be vegetables. It’s actually easier than you may think.
- Fibre and gut health
This is how you get fibre – plants. Important for being regular but critical for gut health. Gut health is very important for many reasons.
– to avoid malnutrition
– as an important step to deliver nutrients to where they are needed – including systems involved in weight loss.
– producing natural GLP-1 supporting weight loss
– reducing the risk of gut disorders including cancers
– immune health improves when the gut is healthy
