As a society, we eat more than we need to. This is how we have got bigger – eating too much, whether in calories or quantity.
You’d be surprised how easily you can overeat. We’ve grown up thinking the amount we eat is normal, when for many of it is in excess.
This is where Mindful Eating comes in. Mindful Eating is an alternative or complimentary approach to couting calories. It is a more sustainable approach to counting calories.
*Side note: calorie counting can be useful to gain an understanding of your baseline intake.
So, what is mindful eating?
We eat for many reasons, sometimes we’re simply used to eating lots of foods or certain types of food due to our environment. Sometimes eating is emotionally derived, like wanting sweets when we are feeling sad. Mindful eating brings us back to our body so that we learn to listen to what is appropriate for our bodies needs, while gaining awareness of why we eat the way we do.
Mindful eating is the practice of paying attention to your body, your food, and the moment you are in.
It helps you notice hunger, fullness, cravings, emotions, and habits without guilt or judgement. Rather than following strict food rules, mindful eating helps you understand why you eat the way you do, so you can make choices that feel more intentional, sustainable, and right for your life.
It is not about perfection. It is about awareness, kindness, and learning to trust yourself again.
Through mindful eating we find a sustainable way forward without relying on calorie counting which is just part of the calorie equation.
